Project Portfolio Manager (f/m/d) Parental Leave Cover
Your mission that drives sustainability in logistics
CargoBeamer is shaping the future of intermodal rail freight in Europe. As a Project Portfolio Manager (f/m/d), you strengthen our project portfolio management (PMO): you set priorities, establish KPI-driven targets, create management transparency, and ensure decisions are made fast—based on data and real progress.
This is a 15-month fixed-term role (parental leave cover) starting from June, with a possibility of permanent employment.
What you’ll do
1) Define & prioritize the project portfolio
- Define CargoBeamer’s high-priority project portfolio.
- Build a prioritized list of initiatives aligned with company strategy.
- Clarify scope, dependencies and ensure proper staffing.
- Propose new initiatives to close white spots in key development areas.
- Quantify and make the overall portfolio budget steerable.
- Work closely with stakeholders across CBIO and CBAG.
2) Steer delivery across quality, time & financials
- Steer the portfolio and top projects against quality, time and financial targets.
- Coach topic owners on PM/PMO best practices (influencing without authority).
- Set up KPI-based targets per project and keep progress measurable.
- Improve effectiveness: collaboration, speed, governance, clarity.
3) Performance dialogues & issue management
- Lead a cross-functional steering platform.
- Establish a steady drumbeat for status, decisions and critical topics.
- Unblock roadblocks, manage interdependencies and prepare decisions.
- Promote data-driven work and an action-oriented execution mindset.
- Act as a knowledge carrier bridging teams and functions.
4) Executive reporting & stakeholder management
- Create board-level decision materials: crisp, structured, decision-ready.
- Align perspectives across departments and stakeholders.
Your Background & Skills
- Degree in business, finance, transport or related fields
- 3–5 years of relevant experience (PMO, project management, consulting, scale-ups, etc.)
- Strong business acumen and solid portfolio/PMO skills
- Ability to build trust and influence without authority
- Analytical, KPI- and data-driven mindset
- Strong communication skills and proven cross-functional collaboration
- Nice to have (not required): transport/rail/logistics background
- Languages: very good German and English (French/Italian is a plus)
